24-Aug-1998 : Manicmalta chats up Shostakovic's Nightmare.
Their CD and tongue defying name caught our attention, so a phone call
to Antonio Tufigno set us rolling towards Job's (bassist) Villa in San
Pawl tat-Targa, where we had the opportunity to meet the rest of the
band; Matthew Cuschieri (Guitar) and Bernard 'Gringo' Camilleri (
Drums). Our curiosity was instantly welcomed by the enthusiastic band
and a bottle of home made wine, courtesy of Job !!...

Antonio Tufigno (Vocals)
The present line up seems to have morphed
back in 1992 when Matthew and Bernard were jamming with Trevor Kissawn and
Gillian on vocals. Job was first joined in after proving his growing proficiency
on the bass, and when Gillian seemed to fade out of the line up, Antonio was
recruited in the wake of a concert, which they took on successfully and where
branded their name for the first time. After another concert at Manoel Island,
which turned out to be their first paid gig, the band whetted its appetite and
quickly took on the Paceville scene with regulars at Alley, Coconut Grove, and
Rock Café. Nowadays, with Bernard abroad studying, the band is enjoying a
relaxed period of circular expansion and experimenting. Jamming is currently in
Job's garage near the villa. Neighbours are either deaf or they certainly enjoy
their music which is Damn good, especially live, as the band quickly proved to
us by performing a spontaneous jamming session.
Job (Bass) and Matt (Lead)
Job in heated argument
Curious facts:
1994. Job gave an electricity performance at one of the 100hr music marathon's at B.J.s … while tuning the bass sitting on a stool, Job touched the cable and flew across the room amid the crackles and sparks of a dying fuse box. He managed to play through two songs , to later recover for a day in hospital on valium !! under Gringo's watchful eye. The non-stop music had obviously been interrupted for quite some time, leading to a now unfriendly relationship with B.J.s
Final Notes:
Shostakovich's Nightmare would like to see more importance directed toward live bands by the clubs. Watch out for the band's next CD which keeps up the performance and more !!
