14-July-2004 : Manicmalta
gets to know Elton of Freetime Productions and learns of an emerging
young artist. A daring singer performing under the name of Baresine who
is reportedly taking the RnB scene by storm . He reckons its time for
you to get to know her and based on her 'in-your-face' persona we sure
want to give it a go. Her comes...

On Tuesday, July 6, the
Maltese music scene received an injection of novelty and inspiration
with the launch of a new singer - Baresine - who promises to be the
hottest revelation in the local RnB scene. Baresine’s debut single, I’m
Out, was also launched and already gives a clear indication of the
young singer’s talent and potential.
The launch was held at Hola
Beach in Marfa, and was attended by a host of local DJs, established
singers and the press. The song, a vibrant RnB melody with elements of
pop, was received with enthusiasm by those present. So was the song’s
video, which was also screened for the first time during the launch.
Baresine is not yet 17 years
old but that does not diminish her presence and attitude, a vital
necessity in the type of music she seeks to establish herself in. She
seems to be taking music seriously enough, if the organisation of the
launch event and the quality of the song’s and video’s production
are anything to go by.
Baresine’s managers and
producers, Freetime Productions, spared no effort in ensuring that the
song and video were of the highest standard and that the launch was
meticulously planned.
The lyrics for Baresine’s
I’m Out were written by IQ’s Pen-Demonium while Elton Zarb wrote the
music.
Who
are your favourite singers?
Definitely
Alicia Keyes, Beyonce Knowles and Michael Jackson.
What
is your preferred film?
Don't
laugh at me! – The Lion King, I have watched it over and over again.

Which
is the last book you read?
Holy
Fools.
What
do you do in your spare time?
I
love shopping especially for clothes, make-up and jewellery. My
favourite shops are Hot Couture and Morgan.
What
food and drink do you like most?
Junk food (Unbelievable when
you consider what a great figure she has!) and I love tea. I am now
cutting back on the junk food a bit, though.
Which
is the country you like to visit most?
Italy,
especially Venice, but I also have a soft spot for Marseille.
What
is your favourite colour?
Pink
(stupid of me to ask when you consider she has also dyed her hair in
that colour!)
What
sport/s do you like?
I
love volleyball which I also used to play.
What
is your favourite and most hated TV programme?
I
love Will and Grace but cannot stand any tele-shopping. I find it ever
so boring.
Do
you see yourself representing Malta in the Eurovision?
No, not necessarily.
Many Maltese singers give it too much importance, possibly because they
see it as a stage to a larger, wider audience.
Baresine
said she was looking to the future with optimism, albeit with her feet
planted firmly on the ground. “I realise it’s a tough market, but
I’m ready to work hard and to be patient,” she said.

But
in the meantime, her producers are not sitting idly. Elton Zarb and
Tonio Cardona, Freetime Productions’ directors, said they were already
working on an album with Baresine and that it would be even more RnB-ish
than Baresine’s debut single. They said they were immediately
captivated by Baresine’s voice and talent when they heard her
screening recording. “She has a lot of promise and has already
attracted the interest of a foreign producer.”
I’m Out started being aired on
local radio and TV stations from late last week. As for Baresine, it’s
back to the recording studio and to the RnB music that is her passion
and her love.
