Seeing Red

Tony-award winning play comes to St James Cavalier in February.

Maltese audiences are in for a treat later this month when Tony Award-winning play, Red, opens at St James Cavalier. It will be produced by FM Theatre Productions, the company renowned for past productions including Allo Allo, Ghost Writer, Seascape, Are You Being Served, Ali Baba The Panto and Cinderella The Panto.

Written by Golden Globe winner John Logan – the writer behind numerous film hits including Gladiator, Skyfall and The Aviator – the show has won six Tonys, including including Best New Play in 2010. Locally it is being directed by Simone Spiteri, with Edward Mercieca and Jean-Marc Cafa taking on the roles in this fast-paced two-hander.

The play deals with questions that were as valid in celebrated artist Mark Rothko world in the 1950s as they are today. In the story, celebrated artist Rothko (played by Mercieca) is in his New York studio, painting a group of murals for the expensive and exclusive Four Season…

Carnival in Nadur, Gozo

Carnival is celebrated throughout various localities around the islands, but the most famous one is that held in Nadur, Gozo.

It is a completely different carnival where no rules apply. It is a people carnival where the streets of Nadur are filled up with creatures wearing all types of costumes, most of which outrageous.

The spontaneity of this carnival made it quite unique and one of the best carnivals in Europe with regards to this aspect. It is visited not only by the Gozitans but attracts many Maltese people that cross over to Gozo just to experience it.

Heineken presents Eden Comedy Club Fifth Live Stand-Up Comedy Event

An international affair.

Eden Comedy next live stand up comedy show is set to take place on Friday, 8 February 2013 at the Eden Cinemas, and will a feature brilliant line-up comedians from across the globe.

Headlining the gig will be hilarious Paddy Lennox, the Irish comedian who described by the Telegraph as Simply a Scream, and supporting him are Canadian jokester, Mike Sheer  the prodigiously talented Nathalie Grey, and back for his third Comedy gig in Malta, resident MC, Geoff Whiting who knows the Maltese crowd so well, he’s known for keeping them in fits of laughter.

Kantanapoli – Back for the 17th edition

Valletta Dramatic Company is in full swing in its preperations to  present the seventh edition of the popular Kantanapoli concert on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd February 2013 at the Catholic Institute Theatre in Floriana.

Partecipating in this edition are Joseph Aquilina, Maryrose Mallia, Ludwig Galea, Laura Bruno, Joe Cutajar and Angele Cristina.

Also participating is the 24-piece orchestra under the direction of mro Arcibald Mizzi. The leader of the orchestra is Marceline Agius.

The Kantanapoli concert has the artistic direction of George Micallef who will be presenting the concert. The director is Joe Brincat while the scenery is the work of Marco Bartolo.

Amongst others, the songs that will be performed include La Romagnina, Tramurtara Nera, Voglio Amarti Cosi and Papavere e Papavere. 

The seventh edition of Kantanapoli will be held on Saturday 2nd February, 2013 at 7pm while on Sunday 3rd February 2013 the concert will start at 6pm.

Peter Andre to perform at the Malta Music Awards

Peter Andre will be the international guest artist for the 17th Edition of the Malta Music Awards to be held at Ta’ Qali on Sunday February 3, 2013 from 6pm onwards.

Peter Andre will be performing three popular numbers from his career.

Andre rose to fame in the early nineties with songs such as Mysterious Girl and Flava. He made a comeback in 2009 with Revelation. Last year he released his ninth studio album Angels and Demons.

Peter Andre will be arriving Malta from Gatwick on Saturday 2 February at 4pm.

Twenty-five contestants where chosen to be the finalist to represent different localities in Malta and Gozo will contest in Miss World Malta which is due to be held on the 27 April 2013 at The Hilton.

Masked Carnival Ball

Masks will be mandatory, guests will be incognito, and intrigue will be inevitable when Palazzo de Piro hosts a Masked Carnival Ball.

Malta Music Awards 2013

Preparations are ongoing for the 17th edition of the Malta Music Awards to be held on Sunday February 3, 2013 at MFCC Ta Qali at 6pm. The awards hosts will be Keith Demicoli and Mandy Micallef Grimaud.

During this edition, 11 awards will be given, including the Best International Artist to Gotye for his song - Somebody that I used to know.

Entertainment will enrich the evening with the participation of Stallo, Duo Blank, 3 Artists, Planet Seed, Monroe, Ira Losco, Brooke, Hooligan and Red Electrick.

A performance will also be given by the winner of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest that will be announced the previous night.

It is also to be noted that this year edition is being organised with the collaboration of PBS and the awards will be held on the same stage as the Malta Eurovision Song Contest.

Land Rover Malta Marathon

The route for both the 2013 Land Rover Malta Marathon and Half Marathon will be same as for 2012.
Both the marathon and the half-marathon pass through countryside and built up areas and finish in Sliema, a popular town promenade.  Both routes include a drop of 200 meters from start to finish.

A map of both routes is displayed on the Route Info website. The map will show details of all feeding stations along the routes.

MADC donates 4200 euros to the Malta Hospice Movement

Last week, the MADC - Malta Amateur Dramatics Club presented a cheque of 4200 euros to the Malta Hospice Movement.  These funds were raised in its November production of Calendar Girls, where a percentage of ticket sales was donated to the Hospice Movement, and also with the sales of its very own 2013 Calendar featuring well known Maltese women as well as actresses from the theatre production, in the nude.

The production which was directed by Nanette Brimmer and featured a stellar cast including 6 women who dared to bare all on stage, received excellent reviews by the local press and its patrons.  The play is based on a true story and focuses around 6 female protagonists who raise money to buy a sofa for the cancer unit at a hospital after one of their husbands pass away from Cancer.  By posing nude for a calendar, they’ve since raised millions with this initiative.  Ms Brimmer stated how passionately she felt about directing this production, because so many of us are affected in one w…

Stanley Brinks aka. Andre Herman Dune will perform live in Malta together with Freschard and local band Stalko.

Stanley Brinks was formerly Andre Herman Dune of the French/Swedish folk rock band Herman Dune. Founding member of the trio Herman Dune exchanges his new identity with the name Stanley Brinks. Stanley accidentally stumbled upon our shores last year, were he fell in love with the island and wrote many songs whilst being here, some of which have a Malta theme feature in his latest album named Hafna Xita. He had a busy year touring with the likes of Jeffrey Lewis, The Wave Pictures, The Kanics etc.

Freschard is a female singer songwriter from French Burgundy who will be performing a positive and uplifting set.

Stalko will also be gracing the stage to perform one of their legendary acoustic shows. These local heroes need no introduction.

Clinton Paul releases Blackout Remix

Dance-Pop Singer Clinton Paul has kicked off the new year with a brand new remix, that for his latest single - Blackout.

The remix encompasses the efforts of Freetime Productions (who did the production of the track), London's Tube Mastering (who did the final mastering of the track), and one of Malta leading guitarists Aldo Spiteri (who did the guitar session of the track).

Blackout Remix is available for download on the popular web portal iTunes amongst others.

Clinton Paul is currently preparing to shoot the music video for this remix, as well as working on his sophomore album coming out this June.

Jeune Orchestre Atlantique

On Tuesday 15th January 2013, the Valletta Baroque Festival (taking place between the 9th and the 26th of January) will present a fabulous orchestral concert by Jeune Orchestre Atlantique from France. This international orchestra of young professional musicians will present a unique programme of music by Maltese composers, as well as works from the Bach legacy. A wonderful opportunity to experience Baroque music in Malta own Baroque Theatre – Teatru Manoel.

Performers include Conductor, leader and violin soloist - Stephanie-Marie Degand, Flute soloist Florian Cousin, Soprano Claudia Tabone and Alto Clare Ghigo.

This remarkable concert has been funded with the support of the European Commission as part of the Culture Programme EUR TEXT.  The concert is also supported by the Ministry for Justice, Dialogue and the Family, the Malta Arts Fund, Cultural Contact Point Malta and Teatru Manoel.

CPI launches a new gospel message website

CAM Productions Internatianal - CPI is the production house, forming part of the media ministry of the Missionary Society of St Paul - MSSP.  It is a non-profit organization with the sole aim of evangelization and missionary animation through various media platforms.  Through the years CPI has fulfilled its aim of  professionally producing various documentaries of religious and  socio-religious nature, both in Malta and abroad. Since 1999 CPI has  been broadcasting the Gospel message to thousands of households  through its weekly television programmes on local national television  stations.
