Seek out Caravaggio's painting, Beheading of St John which is the only painting he ever signed, located in Valletta Cathedral. Our Lady of Victories Festa - 8 Sep 2005 (annual) - Ta'Liesse:
On 8 September 1565, the Ottoman forces who had been besieging the Valletta, in what became known as the Great Siege, gave up and sailed home. In commemoration of this important day, a rowing regatta takes place in the Grand Harbour on what is a Maltese public holiday.


Beheading of St John the Baptist - Daily (not Sun):
Commissioned by the Great Master of the Order of the Knights of Malta, Caravaggio's Beheading of St John was made in 1608 for the chapel of the Co-Cathedral of St John in Valletta. It is the largest work the artist ever painted (12 feet x 17 feet) and the only one he ever signed.
