100 euros worth of Maltese Literature

Eden Cinemas and Merlin Publishers present 100 euros worth of Maltese Literature to Amy Christine Pace from St. Monica School, Gzira.

The beginning of the scholastic year saw Eden Cinema’s team up with Merlin Publishers in an initiative to promote Maltese literacy in schools, entitled the ‘Books for Schools’ campaign. Part of the campaign included a creative writing competition where school-children were encouraged to submit a short story in Maltese.

A year five student from St. Monica Gzira, Amy Christine Pace’s story - Is-Sufan ta' Gerit - was selected as the winning creative piece. As the competition winner, Amy was awarded 100 euros worth of books from Merlin. In addition, she also received an Eden Entertainment pack to enjoy for herself.

An overwhelming positive response was received for this competition, particularly from St Monica School, who Eden Cinemas commends for having promoted this initiative with its student body. Through this, they displayed their commitment to making education fun, and encourage the development and retention of Maltese language skills in coming generations.

Earlier this year, Eden Cinemas and Merlin Publishers also gave out a total of 1000 euros worth of books to various schools who took part in the Books for Schools Initiative. Due to the overall success of the campaign, a similar initiative is in place for this scholastic term too.
