Dark Horses, Capitol K and Dolls For Idols in concert

Kinemastik NGO presents Dark Horses, Capitol K and Dolls For Idols in concert.  One of the most anticipated nights of Kinemastik Fest 2012.

UK band Dark Horses will be in concert in Floriana, an outdoor venue close to Portes des Bombes, on Saturday 28 July 2012.  The line-up also consists of UK-based Capitol K and Maltese band Dolls For Idols.

Fronted by Swedish siren Lisa Elle, Dark Horses are a leather-clad, neo Rock n Roll outfit, from Brighton, via everywhere.  The sound is a unique blend of Siouxsie and the Banshee’s guitar invocation, mixed with a healthy dose of krautrock, encompasing all sorts of reference points; Kraftwerk, Spacemen 3, The Stooges, John Lee Hooker, Radiohead and even Billie Holiday.

Live, their songs are either pulsating and upbeat or funereal slow or. The guitars are dirty and loud, or gentle and soft.

Dark Horses have already found kindred spirits in the likes of A Place To Bury Strangers, Black Mountain, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Kasabian, all of whom have asked them to appear with them.

The band is produced by Richard Fearless, Death In Vegas main man, who has been involved from the very beginning. The line-up consists of Lisa Elle on  Vocals, Harmonica – Bobby Waterson on Guitar, Organ – Andy Bang: Guitar – Stephen Ingham: Drums – Harry Bohay-Nowell on Electric bass – Tommy Chain – Percussion, chains – Ali Tollervey on Camera. www.darkhorsesmusic.com

Capitol K - Kristian Craig Robinson is based in London, born In Malta and raised in Brunei. A multi-instrumentalist and electronic wizard, he has enjoyed a remarkable musical career spanning over 13 years, during which his sound has metamorphosed from sample chopping, vocal driven electronica to Latin American rhythmically charged cumbia.  Following the release of two groundbreaking albums, Sounds Of The Empire - Planet Mu 1999 and Island Row - XL 2000, his experiments with Lo-Fi guitar noise, found sound, melodies and falsetto vocals lead to the pioneering of what the critics later called folktronica.

In recent years he has toured the world playing synths for Archie Bronson Outfit (Domino) and with Brazilian tropicalist Cibelle - Crammed Discs. He has established Studio Plateaux, a boutique studio from which he's produced sessions for acts such as Tune Yards, Atlas Sound, Vivian Girls, Serafina and Ariel Pink amongst others, and set up his own label Faith & Industry, notably releasing Patrick Wolf's debut album.

On return from time spent in South America Capitol K has been excited by new cumbia sonidera movements, coming in particular from Argentina and Mexico.
K new album Andean Dub is inspired by this infectious rhythm, weaving in the hypnotic melodies of cumbia with warm pads and oscillating synths, acid and psychedelia.  http://capitolk.tumblr.com/

Dolls For Idols are an electronic band based in Malta. The line-up consists of Clint Spiteri programming, guitar and vocals, Erick Saliba on bass and Aaron Sammut on drums. Flaunting an intrinsic electronic vein underpinning indie and pop sensibilities, Dolls for Idols’ music has embraced a stronger element of synthesised sounds inspired by the 80s synthpop sensation and the 90s rave generation, all served up with an attitude that is very much rooted in the here and now.

Earlier this year Dolls For Idols played a 15-date tour of Europe, in support of the release of their debut album Cut, Paste and Rave n Roll, culminating in their appearance at the Europavox festival in France where they played to a crowd of 4000 people. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Dolls-for-Idols/38777474857
