The Best of Karl Jenkins

Sacred Songs and te deum.  Singing Jenkins for Hospice.

A Concert of Sacred Music for choir, solo voice, orchestra and organ in aid of Hospice Malta.
On Friday 19th October, the St Paul Choral Society, one of Malta’s leading polyphonic choirs, will present “The Best of Karl Jenkins”, a choral and orchestral concert at St John’s Co-Cathedral in aid of Hospice Malta. The music is all by the famous British Composer Karl Jenkins, who has been described as “the most performed living composer in the world”. His recorded output has resulted in 17 gold and platinum disc awards.  His “Adiemus” project was a world-wide hit, and “The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace” has been performed nearly a thousand times in 20 different countries.

The concert programme includes the Malta Premiere of Jenkins’ Te Deum, the seven Sacred Songs (compiled by the composer himself from the Armed Man: A Mass for Peace, the Stabat Mater and the Requiem) and two solo songs to be sung by UK-based guest soprano Kateriana Fenech.

The 25-member orchestra will be led by Sarah Spiteri.  Soloists include Elisabeth Conrad (organ), Anne-Marie Camilleri Podesta' (harp) and Josรฉ Garcรญa Gutiรฉrrez (French horn).  The 5-member percussion section for the “Te Deum” is under the expert leadership of Renzo Spiteri.  The concert will be directed by Hugo Agius Muscat.

The concert will start at 7.30pm and last around 75 minutes.  Admission to the concert is free; most of the seating is on a first-come first-served basis.

Patrons will be invited to make a voluntary donation in aid of Hospice Malta.  The concert is being organised in collaboration with the Metropolitan Cathedral Chapter and the St John’s Co-Cathedral Foundation.  Guests are asked not to wear stiletto/narrow heels.
