Mozart Requiem at the Mdina Cathedral‏

Followed by a Reception at Palazzo de Piro in Honour of This Great Composer.  There is a mystery around the story of Mozart Requiem, which Malta Art Events in collaboration with The Metropolitan Chapter and Infinitely Xara will be organising under the patronage of the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Malta, at the impressive Mdina Cathedral on Wednesday 13th March 2013.

With an endlessly fascinating enigma in the astonishing music that Mozart managed to compose, the Requiem has got everything: a genuinely bizarre commission from a courtly intermediary who asked Mozart to write a piece for Count von Walsegg, so that the pretentious count could pass off the piece as his own composition to commemorate the death of his wife, a young composer of genius writing his first setting of the Mass for the Dead, and finding an absolutely distinctive musical voice to do so, and his tragically early death at the age of 35 after he had written around two-thirds of the work musical material. Mozart died after composing eight bars of the Requiem Lacrimosa, the last words he set to music marking "that day of tears and mourning".

The Choir and the Orchestra will be conducted by renowned conductor Milos Formacek with Michaela Katrakova as Soprano, Cliff Zammit Stevens as Tenor, Lenka Schutzova as Mezzosoprano and Pavel Svinger as Basso. The Requiem will start at 7.30 pm and the entrance is FREE of CHARGE.

To honour this great composer, a reception will be held after at Palazzo de Piro in Mdina with an ensemble playing more of Mozart music.
