Superman How the Man of Steel inspired science and popular culture

Science is Culture, Euro Media Forum and Eden Cinemas presents on Monday June 10 at 6.30pm at Europe House, 254, St Paul Street, Valletta. This event coincides with the Superman 75th anniversary and ahead of the Man of Steel Midnight Screening on Friday 14th May at Eden Cinemas.

Faster than a speeding bullet. More powerful than a locomotive. And able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. For 75 years, the Man of Steel has enthralled audiences with his incredible powers of flight, super strength, x- ray vision and super speed powers. But just how much science fact is there behind these superpowers. Scientist David Pace and Sci-Fi Film researcher Justin Camilleri will provide insight into the real life science of Superman powers and how he is part of popular culture. Members of the audience will learn how the Man of Steel has had an amazing influence in teaching important scientific principles and how gravity and x-rays, might apply to a real-life Superman. The speakers will explain how Superman's amazing powers are being reborn in laboratories around the world from x-ray vision at airport security checks, to bulletproof vests five times stronger than steel.

The speakers also promise an interesting debate and the audience is invited to participate and put forward to the panel their questions, curiosities and observations.
To spice up the evening there will also be a Superman film quiz, with the opportunity to win great prizes. So quiz participants keep your eyes open for the Man of Steels clues.

The event is supported by the Good Causes Fund as Science is Culture and Euro Media Forum are part of the Malta Film Network.

Entrance is FREE.  Limited seating is available.
