What it is
Set in 1825, Gimgha l-Habs follows Maddalena Mallia during a week in prison with eight other women. Sent to spin cotton under the guards' gaze, the prisoners live, wash and work together while their personal stories emerge through labour, discipline and confinement.
The Mediterranean Conference Centre is at the lower end of Valletta near Fort St Elmo. It is walkable from central Valletta, though taxis are practical after evening shows. Nearby attractions include the National War Museum, Lower Barrakka Gardens, Siege Bell and the Valletta waterfront side.
