What it is
BirdLife Malta runs a set of sunset trips out to the cliffs at Ta' Cenc, off the south coast of Gozo, where Scopoli's Shearwaters -- the seabird Maltese fishermen know as the Cief -- gather on the water at dusk before flying in to nest holes in the rock face. The boat goes out from the Comino ferry jetty at Cirkewwa; you meet at 18:30 and are back by around 21:00. Tickets cost €20 for adults and €10 for under-12s, booked ahead on the BirdLife Malta site. Numbers are capped and sold first-come, and a sailing can be rescheduled if the sea turns rough. Bring binoculars and a layer for after the sun goes down.
