What it is
The Valletta Local Food Festival returns to St George's Square for its fifth edition from Friday 3 to Sunday 5 July 2026, running each evening from 7pm to midnight. Organised by the Valletta Cultural Agency with the Malta Food Agency, it is a celebration of Malta's culinary heritage: chefs, food artisans and producers fill the square in front of the Grandmaster's Palace with local cheeses, chutneys, pastries, sweets, delicatessen and drinks, and the festival makes a point of reviving staples from the past to keep traditional recipes alive. For a visitor it is one of the best single evenings for tasting your way through Maltese food culture - you wander the stalls in the open square and pay for what you eat and drink, with the floodlit palace as the backdrop. The square is a few minutes on foot up Republic Street from the City Gate bus terminus, so it is easy to reach and pairs naturally with an evening stroll through the capital. Expect it to be busiest later in the evening and over the weekend. Check the Valletta Cultural Agency page for the full programme.
